James M. Bardes MD

Dr. James M. Bardes, MD, is an Associate Professor of Surgery specializing in Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care and serves as Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Surgery at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed his Surgical Residency at West Virginia University, followed by advanced subspecialty training with a Surgical Critical Care and Trauma Fellowship at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California.

Dr. Bardes is board-certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and is actively engaged in clinical care and academic research focused on improving outcomes for trauma patients, including investigations into trauma systems, critical care processes, and injury mechanisms. He has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications in surgical and trauma literature and participates in multidisciplinary research efforts that span trauma surgery, critical care, and rural health challenges.
