James C. Nielsen, M.D., has been appointed Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Radiology at Stony Brook University School of Medicine, and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology for Stony Brook Long Island Children’s Hospital, announced Margaret McGovern, M.D., Ph.D., Physician-in-Chief, Stony Brook Children’s, and Professor and Chair, Department of Pediatrics, Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
Dr. Nielsen is an internationally recognized authority on the advanced application of noninvasive imaging technologies in congenital heart disease evaluation, particularly through his innovations in cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). He comes to Stony Brook from Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he ran a robust clinical practice, trained advanced imaging fellows in congenital and pediatric cardiac MRI, and served as an Associate Professor in both the Departments of Radiology and Pediatrics.
Dr. Nielsen is board-certified in Pediatric Cardiology. He received his M.D. degree from Tulane University, where he also completed a residency in Pediatrics and served as Pediatric Chief Resident. He was a Pediatric Cardiology Fellow at Mount Sinai Medical Center and a Senior Pediatric Cardiology Fellow and at Children’s Hospital Boston.
