James B. Talmage, MD is a graduate of the Ohio State University for both undergraduate school and medical school. His orthopaedic training was in the U.S. Army. He is Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and in Emergency Medicine. He no longer operates, but now has an Occupational Medicine and Workers Compensation practice in Cookeville, TN, where he has lived and practiced since 1979.

He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Occupational Medicine at Meharry Medical College in Nashville. He has given over 600 lectures at physician continuing education courses on orthopaedic surgery, workers compensation, and occupational medicine topics. He has authored and/or edited multiple medical text books, including books on Return to Work, Causation, and Impairment Rating for the American Medical Association.
