J. Patrick Johnson, MD is a neurosurgeon at the Cedars-Sinai Spine Center, Co-Medical Director of the Spine Center and Director of the Neurosurgery Spine Fellowship program in the Department of Neurosurgery.

Prior to joining Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Johnson was the Chief of Neurosurgery at Olive View-University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center and the lead neurosurgical spine surgeon at UCLA where he established the neurosurgical spine fellowship training program. At Cedars-Sinai, he previously served as Director of the Cedars-Sinai Institute for Spinal Disorders where he established a combined neurosurgery and orthopaedic fellowship program.

Dr. Johnson's research interests include new surgical technologies such as computer guided surgical applications and procedures, endoscopic and minimally invasive surgical procedures and motion preservation procedures with artificial discs and other related procedures. He has conducted clinical trials and outcome studies with a particular interest in biological stem cell repair of spinal cord injuries. He was instrumental in establishing a basic science stem cell research and biomechanics laboratory at Cedars Sinai.
