Dr. Shirley received his dental degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and practiced general dentistry in the US Navy for three years. He then completed a 3 year residency at University of Alabama- Birmingham / Children’s Hospital of Alabama and received a Masters of Science degree in 1994.

Currently he is a pediatric dentist with the Center for Craniofacial Disorders at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Pediatric Hospital. He has a hospital based practice treating children with complex medical conditions and is also in private practice. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in College of Dentistry at Georgia Health Sciences University and serves as a consultant to Navy Postgraduate Dental School at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda,MD.

Dr. Shirley has been a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD) since 1997 and has served on the ABPD Examination Committee since 2004. Currently he is Chairman of the Oral Clinical Examination Subcommittee. In 2004, he was selected for membership in Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Special Needs Dentistry. Dr. Shirley has served on the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s Council of Dental Care and Council of Dental Benefits and is past president of the Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
