Prof Dr. Irwin Reiss, MD, Ph.D., followed his pediatric training at the University of Luebeck, Germany, from 1991 to 1997 and finished his specialization in neonatology and pediatric intensive care in 1997. He received his doctorate in 1994 magna cum laude from the University of Luebeck. In 1998 he became a senior physician in the department of pediatrics and neonatology in Giessen, Germany, where he worked until 2005.
In January 2005 he received his postdoctoral lecture qualification and became an associate professor at the University of Giessen. From November 2005 until September 2011 he has worked as a member of the staff and senior investigator of the department of pediatric surgery and pediatric intensive care in the Erasmus MC-Sophia Children’s Hospital. Since the 1st of September 2011 Prof. dr. Reiss is Head of the Division of Neonatology. He was appointed professor of Neonatology in December 2011. He is (co)author of over 100 international peer-reviewed publications. He is a member of several national and international professional societies and a reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals.
