Ira A. Parness, MD is Chief Emeritus of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology in the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital and the Children's Heart Center. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from Touro College and his M.D. cum laude from SUNY- Downstate. After his pediatric (and chief ) residency at Brookdale Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, he completed a pediatric cardiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School where, from 1985-1992, he served as a Pediatric Cardiology attending and director of pediatric heart transplantation.
Dr. Parness is an internationally recognized expert echocardiographer with special interests in complex congenital heart disease, preoperative cardiac surgical planning, and fetal cardiology. An author/co-author of over 70 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, review articles and an innovative video teaching collection, Dr. Parness has received numerous awards, including the prestigious American Society of Echocardiography’s inaugural Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006.
