Ioav Cabantchik is a Professor of Biochemistry at the Institute of Life Sciences at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, where he holds the Adelina and Massimo Della Pergola Chair in Life Sciences. He studied undergraduate Chemistry and Biology (BSc) and graduate Biochemistry (MSc) at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) (1961–1966), MD- Ph.D. program at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, NY, USA, (1970–1974) from where he got his Dissertation (cum laude) in Medical Biophysics. He later trained as a Fellow at the Medical Research Institute of the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, Canada) (1974–1976) and was a visiting scientist in membrane physiology and biophysics at the National Institute of Health (Laboratory of Kidney and Electrolyte Metabolism, NHLBI) (1976–1978). In 1979, Ioav Cabantchik joined the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Institute of Life Sciences as a senior lecturer in Biochemistry and Biophysics. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics with tenure in 1984 and was appointed as Full Professor in 1987. He served as Head of Biochemistry (1987-90) and Head of the Life Sciences Program (2002-06) and Head of the Institute of Life Sciences Institute (2006-09) and lectures in undergraduate Cell Physiology and Advanced Biochemistry and in graduate Membrane Biology and Metal Biochemistry. In 1994 he was the Cystic Fibrosis NIH Scholar and in 1998 he was a visiting INSERM professor at Hospital Bichat (Molecular Biology of Erythropoiesis).
