Hollis H. King, DO, is a board-certified osteopathic physician. He has a whole-body approach to medicine and is highly experienced in osteopathic manipulative treatment, a type of hands-on care that diagnoses and treats illness and injury by moving a person’s muscles and joints to ease pain and increase mobility. Dr. King provides care for patients of all ages and helps people adopt lifestyle changes aimed at disease prevention.
King's research interests include plagiocephaly, autism, glaucoma, migraine headaches, traumatic brain injury, gastrointestinal diseases, metabolic disorders, pediatrics, psychiatry, and sleep research. He has been published in numerous medical journals, including The Journal of American Osteopathic Association and Lymphatic Research and Biology.
Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. King was the residency director in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. Before that, he was a professor of Osteopathic Principles and Practice at A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Mesa, Arizona, and the associate executive director of the Osteopathic Research Center at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
Dr. King earned his degree in osteopathic medicine from the UNT Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University and is board-certified in family practice.
Dr. King is a fellow of the American Academy of Osteopathy and a member of several professional societies, including the American Osteopathic Association, Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California, and the American Psychological Association. Dr. King also serves on the research committee for the Osteopathic Cranial Academy and editorial advisory board for The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. In 2002, Dr. King was awarded Physician of the Year by the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of California.
