Herbert Lerner MD, PhD

Dr. Lerner is the deputy division director in the division of reproductive, gastro-renal and urological devices at in the Office of Device Evaluation at FDA. In that capacity, he oversees a highly motivated team of biologists, toxicologists, engineers and medical officers in the review of pre-market device applications. He also has a major role in designing clinical trials to support marketing applications for the medical device industry. For the last few years, his focus has been on devices intended to treat obesity.

Dr. Lerner completed his residency in general surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach, FL, and went on to complete his fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the Carle Clinic in Urbana, IL. Prior to joining the FDA in 2003, Dr. Lerner practiced surgery in Deerfield Beach, FL.
