Dr. Heiko Pohl, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Since joining Dartmouth Health in 2008, he has specialized in the prevention, early detection, and endoscopic management of gastrointestinal cancers, with particular expertise in Barrett's esophagus, esophageal cancer, and advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy. Dr. Pohl is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care, emphasizing attentive listening and personalized treatment for every patient.

Dr. Pohl earned his medical degree from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in Germany. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin, followed by an Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, he is an internationally recognized physician-scientist with an extensive publication record focused on gastrointestinal endoscopy, colorectal cancer prevention, Barrett's esophagus, and quality improvement in digestive healthcare. Through his clinical practice, research, and academic leadership, Dr. Pohl continues to advance innovation in gastroenterology while mentoring the next generation of physicians.
