He is the lead anaesthetist responsible for setting up the ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia programme. This enables the Trust to offer patients the option of having their operation awake.
Dr Akerman also set up and runs the South Coast intensive final course. This is a non-profit making independent course for candidates taking the final part of their anaesthetics exams.
