Hannah Yong Wen MD, PhD

Dr. Hannah Wen is an Attending Pathologist, the Director of Breast Pathology Fellowship, and Associate Team Leader of Breast Pathology Team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She earned her medical degree from Peking University Health Science Center and a PhD in Cancer Biology from MD Anderson Cancer Center. She completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at New York University, during which she served as Chief Resident, followed by an Oncologic Surgical Pathology Fellowship and a Breast Pathology Fellowship at MSKCC. Dr. Wen joined the faculty at MSKCC in 2010. She is a member of the USCAP Education Committee and a co-Chair of the NRG Breast Cancer Rare Tumor Working Group. She served as the Education Director and Treasurer of the International Society of Breast Pathology (ISBP) (2019-2023) and is the President-Elect of the ISBP (2025).

Dr. Wen has published over 140 peer-reviewed original articles, many review articles, and book chapters on breast pathology. She is a contributor to book chapters in the WHO Classification of Tumors of the Breast 5th Edition (2019) and 6th Edition (2025), and in Rosen’s Breast Pathology 5th Edition (2020). She is a Guest Editor for Current Concepts in Breast Pathology in the Surgical Pathology Clinics (2025). Her research interests are in breast cancer, and in particular, the genomic alterations in triple-negative breast cancer, special histologic subtypes of breast cancer, and prognostic and predictive biomarkers. In addition to her work in research, Dr. Wen is a passionate educator. She has mentored 20 Breast Pathology fellows and given numerous lectures and post-graduate CME courses around the US and the world.
