G. William Dec, MD, is Chief Emeritus of the Cardiology Division and Roman W. DeSanctis Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He was born and raised in Washington, DC. He attended Georgetown University and received his MD degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1978. He completed his medical residency and fellowship training in Cardiovascular Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital.

He joined the staff at Mass General in 1984 and served as Medical Director of the Mass General Heart Failure and Heart Transplantation program from 1984 until 2003. He served as Chief of the Cardiology Division and Co-Director of the Mass General Heart Center from 2003 to 2014. He remains an active member of the clinical staff. Dr. Dec is the Roman DeSanctis Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
