Dr. Steer has practiced respiratory therapy and cardiopulmonary physiological monitoring and treatment for over 20 years in the acute critical care environment. He maintains current clinical practice standards by regularly attending national and international conferences and by attending continuing educational activities as a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care and the American Thoracic Society. He has presented clinical and pedagogical lectures at regional health care and educational conferences with topics such as pulmonary consequences of abdominal compartment syndrome and student and faculty perceptions of interprofessional learning in the multiple case trauma emergent care scenario. He has trained students at academic levels ranging from first year undergraduate freshmen to Allopathic medical students. Dr. Steer is uniquely prepared for presentation of cardiopulmonary clinical practice procedures. As a respiratory therapist, he has provided all breathing therapies and life support. As a cardiopulmonary (CP) physiologist, in the intensive care unit and as a CP researcher, he has exquisite knowledge in cardiopulmonary physiological monitoring in many cardiac and pulmonary disorders in both the acute care and diagnostic arenas.
