Gary Smith

Gary Smith is an Executive Director at American Academy in Berlin. He was Executive Director of the American Academy in Berlin from 1998 to 2014. It is where famous artists, academics and researchers, journalists, and writers from the United States spend a year in Berlin and exchange views with German experts. “But the Academy is everything but an academic hermitage,” says Smith. The fellows are integrated into the community through their projects and work all the way through Berlin society.
