Francois Villinger DVM, PhD

Francois Villinger, DVM, PhD, Chief of the Yerkes Division of Pathology, graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. He has been focused on infectious diseases and immune responses to pathogens, including immunopathological mechanisms immunotherapeutic approaches and the exploration of protective vaccines. Since joining Emory University in 1989, now at the New Iberia Research Center, his interest has been focused on the pre-clinical nonhuman primate (NHP) models of human disease, primarily models of AIDS and the testing of experimental vaccines and vaginal and rectal microbicides to prevent the acquisition of SIV and SHIV across mucosal surfaces.
