Filippo Giancotti is a Professor in the Department of Cancer Biology and the Olla S. Stribling Distinguished Chair in Cancer Research at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is also the Scientific Director of the David H. Koch Center for GU Cancers and a co-leader of the Prostate Cancer Moonshot Program of the same Institution. His laboratory has made notable discoveries in the field of cell adhesion and signaling and demonstrated a role for adhesion signaling in tumor initiation and progression by using a combination of biochemistry and mouse genetics. Recently, they have designed innovative forward genetics screen in the mouse that provide an entry point into several steps of metastasis. A major current focus of his laboratory is the study of metastasis with an emphasis on epigenetic and contextual cues regulating metastatic dormancy and reactivation.
