Fernando Holguin, MD, MPH, is the director of the Latino Research and Policy Center at the Colorado School of Public Health, an associate professor of medicine with the CU School of Medicine, and directs the asthma clinical research program at the Center for Lungs and Breathing in University of Colorado Hospital. Prior to joining CU and ColoradoSPH, he was associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh, where he directed the Clinical and Translational Research Center at the University Medical Center’s Montefiore hospital, co-directed the University’s Asthma Institute, and funded the Pulmonary Translational Research Core.

Dr. Holguin is from Mexico and worked there earlier in his career to develop research programs on the effects of air pollution in respiratory and cardiovascular health for the National Institute of Public Health before being recruited by Emory University and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a medical epidemiologist. During his tenure as Emory faculty, Dr. Holguin also directed the Grady Hospital Asthma Clinic and obtained his MPH in epidemiology. He has won several teaching and research awards and has been funded by the CDC, EPA and NIH, among others.
