Dr. Caskey studied medicine at the University of Glasgow before obtaining a Masters in Public Health and Health Services Research and an MD in the Cost-effectiveness of Dialysis in Europe from the University of Aberdeen. He was drawn to Bristol by the UK Renal Registry and after a year at the German Renal Registry (2004/5) was appointed consultant nephrologist in Bristol and later a consultant senior lecturer at the University of Bristol.

In his role as medical director of the UK Renal Registry (2013-2019), he has acquired extensive experience in the senior management and governance of an organization responsible for processing large sensitive clinical datasets for advocacy, planning, quality assurance, and research. By working with collaborators in the UK and abroad he has transformed research at the Registry securing $7+m of competitive funding for ‘registry’ randomized controlled trials. Alongside this, he has continued to use novel data sources to explore the epidemiology of acute and chronic kidney disease, particularly around equity of access to treatment and equity of outcomes on RRT.
