Adj A/Prof Fareed graduated from the NUS Faculty of Medicine in 1995. He completed his orthopaedic training in Singapore and obtained his FRCS (Edinburgh) in Orthopaedics in 2002. Further subspecialty clinical fellowship training was obtained in Leeds, UK with Prof Peter Giannoudis; in Hannover, Germany with Prof Christian Krettek and in Lucerne, Switzerland with Prof Reto Babst between 2004 and 2006.
Besides being awarded the Most Outstanding Orthopaedic Trainee in 2002, he has received several research, service excellence and undergraduate/post-graduate teaching awards. After working with the National University Hospital (NUH) for 8 years, he joined NTFGH as a Senior Consultant in 2010.
Surgery for complex injuries and fractures as well as management of multiply injured patients (polytrauma) is his major area of interest. He performs reconstruction surgery for infections and non-union of the bone, correction of bony deformities as well as limb lengthening. Additionally, he practices general adult orthopaedics which includes joint replacements and knee arthroscopic surgery.
