Enrico Tessitore, born on 19.06.1972 in Italy, obtained his Medical Degree at the Second University of Naples (Italy) in 1996 and he completed his neurosurgical residency in 2001 at the same University.

He has been working in Geneva since October 2001, first as chief resident and then as an Attending Neurosurgeon. Now, he serves as Deputy Chairman and he is the Chief of Spine Surgery in the same Unit. Given his interest in spinal tumors, he was appointed Director of Geneva HUG Cancer Center in December 2019.

He has focused his clinical and scientific interest on the field of spine surgery.

He has published more than 90 papers in peer-reviewed journals, mainly on spinal topics. He has been invited as speaker and chairman at several National and International Congresses.

He has been appointed Associate Editor of the Journal Acta Neurochirurgica, and he is on the advisory board of the European Spine Journal and Journal of Neurosurgical Sciences.

His clinical research focuses on cranio-vertebral junction, cervical myelopathy, robotic spine surgery, and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery. He has been the main Editor of the book “Surgery of the Cranio-Vertebral Junction”, published by Springer in December 2019.

He was appointed in July 2020 Associate Professor in Neurosurgery at the University of Geneva. He’s been involved in pre-graduate teaching at the Faculty of Medicine of Geneva since 2005. He is also involved in post-graduate teaching at the European level (EANS, AO Spine, Eurospine), by organizing and leading hands-on courses on spinal surgical techniques. He is a member of the Eurospine EduCom board.

Since the beginning of his career, he has operated on more than 4000 patients, mainly for spinal pathologies (traumatic, tumoral, and degenerative). He has developed particular skills and competencies in surgical procedures such as surgery at cranio-vertebral junction, robotic spine surgery, adult deformity surgery, and minimally invasive surgery.
