Emma Sutcliffe is a Medical Biochemist, currently completing PhD research about the impact of social media on medicine and also researching about the psychological adaptation to long-term illness. During a highly successful 21 year career in the pharmaceutical industry, Emma has lobbied relentlessly about the patient voice – infact she is our resident ‘Patient Polemic’ columnist at EFP.

Emma is extensively published on the importance of good industry-patient relationships and more recently is credited for being the first leader to describe the era of Citizen Health. Emma works as an independent consultant in pharma companies – she is drafted in to audit and integrate patient-generated evidence into 360 degree support systems. Having done this for many companies, Emma recently published a 10-point patient-centricity checklist for healthcare companies. I’ve previously described Emma as ‘relentless’ in pushing pharma companies around … that’s in her DNA!

At NexGen Healthcare, Emma heads up the Patient Services division and works alongside the medical communication and strategy teams to drive insightful, incisive and innovative ways to improve patient care.
