Emily Simmons received her ADN from Southern Union Community College. She began her nursing career on the Vascular Surgery unit at UAB. While on the Vascular Surgery unit, she worked as a staff nurse, charge nurse, and preceptor. She received her BSN degree through the BSN Mobility Program and later obtained her Master's degree as a Clinical Nurse Leader from UAB School of Nursing. She was the Clinical Educator and then the Advanced Nursing Coordinator for Vascular Surgery and ENT, Plastics, Urology, and Oral Surgery.

She worked on various process improvement projects with these units. Emily is now an Advanced Nursing Coordinator in the Center for Nursing Excellence. She is the NICHE and Geriatric Scholar Program Coordinator. She enjoys working with various disciplines that participate in the Geriatric Scholar Program. Emily's professional interests are in promoting excellence in patient care especially in the geriatric patient population, caregiver stress, fall prevention, and preventing functional loss in older adults. When not at work, Emily enjoys spending time with her family.
