Ellen L. Air, MD, PhD, is the chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and associate clinical professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. She is chair of the Department of Neurosurgery and co-medical director of the Neuroscience Service at Henry Ford Health.
Air obtained her medical and doctoral degrees from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. She completed her residency in neurosurgery at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Previously, Air served as the neurosurgery residency program director at Henry Ford, and she continues to contribute to the education of physicians and trainees across the system.
Through the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, she now directs a leadership program that builds communication, management, and business skills among neurosurgeons. Air is an officer of the North American Neuromodulation Society and American Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery and is a past president of Women in Neurosurgery.
