Elena Fuentes-afflick MD, MPH

Dr. Fuentes-Afflick has been a UCSF faculty member since 1993. She is Professor and Vice Chair of Pediatrics, Chief of Pediatrics at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs in the School of Medicine. As a pediatrician and epidemiologist, Dr. Fuentes-Afflick has conducted research studies focused on issues of acculturation, immigrant health, and health disparities. She is also interested in the portrayal of body mass images in Latino television media, principally in telenovelas.

In 2012, Dr. Fuentes-Afflick was appointed Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Faculty Development for the School of Medicine. She is responsible for overseeing all academic affairs in the School of Medicine, including the recruitment, development and advancement of a diversified academic workforce of the highest caliber. She is also responsible for overseeing innovative programs for faculty orientation, career development, and leadership training.
