Eldin Jasarevic PhD

Dr. Eldin Jasarevic is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine with joint appointments in Obstetrics Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences and Computational and Systems Biology. His research focuses on how maternal microbiota influence offspring health with emphasis on neurodevelopment development and reproductive function.

His work examines how maternal experiences such as stress and diet shape the gut microbiome brain axis and its long term effects on offspring health. He studies how microbial metabolites regulate reproductive longevity fertility and sex specific outcomes across the gut brain axis.

Dr. Jasarevic has published more than 30 peer reviewed articles in leading journals including Cell Host Microbe Nature Neuroscience Nature Communications Molecular Psychiatry and Microbiome. His research has been featured in major media outlets including the New York Times Scientific American and Nature.

He has received several awards including the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Next Gen Pregnancy Initiative Award the NIMH F32 the NIDDK K01 Research Scientist Development Award and he is a Kavli Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences and a rising star recognized by the Director of NIDDK.

He leads a multidisciplinary research program integrating neuroscience reproductive biology microbiome science and computational biology supported by NIH and other major funding agencies. His recent work has identified novel mechanisms by which commensal microbes regulate reproductive health and lifespan providing new directions for fertility related therapies.
