Eftyhia Vardas MBBCh, BSc

Professor Eftyhia Vardas is an honorary extra-ordinary Professor in Medical Virology in the Department of Medical Virology, University of Stellenbosch, visiting Professor in Biotechnology at the University of Johannesburg and Pathologist in charge of Immunology, Allergy and Infectious Disease serology at Lancet Laboratories in Johannesburg. She obtained her MBBCh at the University of the Witwatersrand after completing a BSc(Hons) in Medical Physiology and specialised initially in Ophthalmology but completed her specialisation in Clinical Virology with the South Africa College of Pathologists. She also holds diplomas in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Public Health (with distinction) from the University of the Witwatersrand as well as Infectious disease modelling from the London School of Tropical Hygiene and Medicine. She has conducted multiple clinical trials including HIV vaccine and microbicides as well as human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine efficacy trials.
