Edward Shahady MD

Dr. Shahady is a family physician and medical director of the Florida Academy of Family Physicians Foundation Diabetes Master Clinician Program. He is also a clinical professor of family medicine at the University of Miami and University of Florida. Dr. Shahady is a past president of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) and immediate past president for medicine of the North Florida South Georgia Chapter of the American Diabetes Association, immediate past chair of the Diabetes Coalition for city of Jacksonville, and member of the Governor’s Diabetes Advisory Committee for Florida. Dr. Shahady is a graduate of Wheeling Jesuit University and West Virginia University School of Medicine, and is board certified in clinical lipidology.

Dr. Shahady is the recipient of multiple awards including the distinguished alumnus awards from West Virginia University School of Medicine and Wheeling Jesuit University, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Thomas Johnson Award, the STFM Recognition award, and multiple teaching awards from students and residents at 3 medical schools. In 2005, he received the Art of Medicine Award from the Florida Academy of Family Physicians for lifetime achievement in medicine and the American Association of Medical Colleges Humanitarian Award from Florida State University School of Medicine.
In 2008, Dr. Shahady was honored with the Innovation in Practice Improvement Award from the AAFP and STFM for his work with the Diabetes Master Clinician Program. Dr. Shahady and the Diabetes Master Clinician Program received the 2009 State Surgeon General’s Health, Innovation, Prevention and Management Award recognizing commitment to providing wellness, disease prevention and advocating healthy lifestyles. Most recently, he received the F. Marion Bishop Award for lifetime and sustained contributions to the discipline of family medicine. This year he also received the prestigious Stop Diabetes Award from the American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Shahady has lectured extensively, both internationally and nationally. He is well known for his enthusiastic teaching style and ability to help learners at all levels understand complex issues. Dr. Shahady has contributed over 180 scientific articles and 5 books to the medical literature.
