Edward L. Paul, Jr was recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on macular degeneration, ocular nutritional and low vision rehabilitation, Dr. Edward Paul is the researcher and inventor of TOZAL®, a patented prescription medication for the prevention and treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A graduate of the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, Dr. Paul completed his internship training at Womack Army Hospital at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and St. Luke’s Eye Institute in Tarpon Springs, Florida. In addition to his doctorate in optometry, Dr. Paul also holds a Ph.D. in nutrition. He is considered by his peers and colleagues as a leading clinician and educator whose approach to medicine is years ahead of the conventional medical establishment. Dr. Paul holds multiple U.S. and international patents on pharmaceutical agents and medical devices used in medical practices all over the world. He has been recognized by the Consumers’ Research Council of America as one of the nation’s top eye physicians and is one of only 30 physicians in the United States to be selected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists.

Dr. Paul is an experienced clinician and educator having served as professor of ophthalmology at St. Luke’s University School of Medicine in Belize. He was recently chosen as one of “America’s Top Optometrists” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America. Dr. Paul is one of 30 eye physicians in the United States to be recognized as a Fellow of the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists. He is a 1986 graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, where he received a Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D.), and also holds a second doctorate, a Doctor of Philosophy degree (Ph.D.), in Nutrition, and is a member of the American Optometric Association, the North Carolina Optometric Society and is a Diplomate , International Academy of Low Vision Specialists (IALVS).

Beyond his research and medical practice, Dr. Paul is the author of several books, including Conquering Macular Degeneration, Alternative Cures, and 101 Great Ways to Improve Your Health. Furthermore, he serves as a contributing writer for several national magazines including Rodale Press, publishers of Prevention magazine. He is a frequent guest on television and radio programs, having recently been featured on NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, and Lifetime Television. Dr. Paul is the founder and medical director at the Paul Vision Institute in Wilmington, NC. Dr. Paul is an accredited diplomat by the United States Department of State representing the Central American nation of Belize as Consul to the United States of America.
