Dr. Bednar is currently the Clinical Professor of Orthopedics at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada where he has practiced academically-oriented adult reconstructive spine surgery for now over 26 years after completing Medical and Orthopedic Residency training at McGill University and Spine Fellowship training under Dr. John Kostuik, the great Canadian pioneer of lumbar realignment osteotomy for painful flatback. He is licensed to practice in two Canadian provinces and one US state, and holds title to five successful Board examinations.
Dr. Bednar served his term as Examiner to The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada from 1998-2003 and contributed to the Written Exam Panel from 1988 through 2010. He was Director of the Orthopedic Training Program at McMaster University from 2003 through 2009. Dr. Bednar’s 49 peer-reviewed publications and 177 podium presentations range from surgical outcome studies to tissue and implant biomechanics, a wide range of interests evolving to focus on the optimized delivery of orthopedic and spine surgical care at the absolute current state of our art.
