Donald W. Black, MD is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa. He is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in psychiatry and a fellowship in Psychiatric Epidemiology at the University of Iowa. He has served as Residency Training Program and Vice-Chair for Education. He has received many awards for his teaching and clinical care including the University of Iowa Regents Award for Faculty Excellence. He has been continuously listed in “Best Doctors in America” since 1996.

Dr. Black’s research has focused on behavioral addictions and severe personality disorders. His research has been funder over the years by the federal governmental, industry, and private foundations. His work includes conducting the world’s largest family study of pathological gambling.
