Prof Lau is an opinion leader in heart rhythm disorders internationally. His research work has provided novel insights regarding catheter ablation of AF from mapping studies in both animal models and human subjects. His work has enhanced the knowledge in the field on atrial remodelling due to various risk factors. Importantly, he has been instrumental in translating these basic studies with active involvement in clinical trials at the Centre for Heart Rhythm Disorders examining risk factor management in AF patients. Recent publications from this work are being incorporated into international practice guidelines. A/Prof Lau is one of few researchers who combine preclinical studies with clinical research in the field of heart rhythm disorders in Australia.
He is an editorial board member for 4 international journals: Heart Rhythm, Journal of Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology, PeerJ & Journal of Arrhythmia. He is actively involved in peer review as invited reviewer for numerous international scientific journals. He was ranked in the top 5% on Publons for his journal reviewing/editing work in Medicine.
