Dr. Demetre C. Daskalakis, MD, MPH, is an infectious disease physician and nationally recognized public health leader with extensive experience in HIV prevention, immunization, outbreak response, and health equity. He has held senior leadership roles at the local, federal, and community levels, guiding large-scale public health programs and emergency responses.

Dr. Daskalakis has played key roles in managing major infectious disease challenges, including HIV, COVID-19, mpox, measles, and other emerging threats, with a strong focus on evidence-based policy and community-centered care. He is widely known for advancing status-neutral approaches to HIV prevention and treatment and for integrating clinical medicine with public health systems.

He trained in internal medicine and infectious diseases and has practiced clinically in New York City. Dr. Daskalakis earned his MD from New York University School of Medicine and an MPH from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
