Deen Mirza is a family doctor, medical educationalist and self-help author based in London. He qualified from Imperial College many years ago and alongside his clinical career, has held various academic positions- as a GP teaching fellow, a lecturer, and finally an assistant professor in family medicine. After 5 years as a full-time academic GP, he spent a further 5 years working in leadership positions within appraisal and revalidation. Three of these last 5 years were spent within NHS England as a medical adviser (carrying out performance investigations on GPs).

Deen now works as a GP part-time and spends the rest of his week giving lectures, running time management courses, and writing books. He especially gets fulfillment from writing self-help guides for GPs, as he recognizes the massive gap between how GPs are told to practice by the great and the good, and what real-life clinical work is like. His writings attempt to bridge that gap between 20th-century GP paradigms and the GPs struggling to survive today. His short, easy-to-read self-help guides for family doctors are practical and full of clinical anecdotes that will ring true with those at the coal face of primary care.
