Dr. David W.Kennedy, M.D., Rhinology Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, is best known for his pioneering work in endoscopic sinus surgery and minimally invasive trans-nasal and skull base surgery. As a result of these techniques he has significantly reduced surgical morbidity and improved surgical results, and his research has significantly advanced our understanding of these disorders and revolutionized their management.

After introducing endoscopic sinus surgery to the United States, he developed the first course internationally to teach endoscopic trans-nasal techniques and the first fellowship training in rhinology. He has participated in teaching on sinus disease and skull base surgery in hundreds of courses both in the United States and internationally and continues to refine and expand the surgical techniques and the medical management of these disorders for the benefit of his patients. Dr. Kennedy has also served as Chair of the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Vice Dean for Professional Services at the University of Pennsylvania.

He is Past President of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the American Rhinologic Society, and the International Rhinologic Society and currently also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology. Dr. Kennedy has published approximately 200 journal articles and chapters in his field and has received a number of international awards. In 1999, he was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. He has previously received the Practitioner Excellence Award and a Presidential Citation from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
