David L. Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACP, FACLM is the founding director (1998-2019) of Yale University’s Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center, Past-President of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and a Fellow of Morse College at Yale University. He is the Founder and CEO of Diet ID, Inc., home to the first fundamental advance in dietary assessment methods in decades. He is Founder/President of the True Health Initiative, a federally authorized 501c3 committed to making the truth about lifestyle as medicine clear and actionable for all.

Katz earned his BA degree from Dartmouth College (1984); his MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1988); and his MPH from the Yale University School of Public Health (1993). He was trained and board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine/Public Health. The recipient of many awards for his contributions to public health, he has received three honorary doctorates. Katz holds multiple US patents with others pending, and invented the research methods known as “evidence mapping,” "evidence threshold pathway mapping," and the "multi-site translational community trial."

He is the principal inventor of the Overall Nutritional Quality Index (ONQI™) algorithm and invented the dietary intake assessment method called Diet Quality Photo Navigation (https://dietID.com). He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications, many hundreds of health columns both online and in print, and 17 books to date including multiple editions of leading textbooks in both nutrition and preventive medicine. He has three books in production now (12/19), with his next- How to Eat, co-authored with Mark Bittman, releasing in March 2020 (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt).
