David J. Hernandez MD

Dr. Hernandez joined the USF faculty in 2009 as an Assistant Professor. A native of Tampa, he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Molecular Biology at Vanderbilt University and Medical School and Urology Residency at Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Hernandez's areas of concentration include urologic oncology, prostate and renal malignancies, kidney stones and benign prostatic hypertrophy, as well as minimally invasive surgical treatment modalities. His interests include clinical outcomes research and resident education. He served as the chief of urology at Tampa General Hospital 2013-2015 and is actively involved in several ongoing research endeavors including novel catheter development to reduce CAUTIs as well as quality improvement in the management of BPH, robotics, and stones.
