Dr. Sigal graduated from Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude from UCLA with a degree in microbiology and molecular genetics. He earned his medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Sigal performed subspecialty training in hematology and oncology at Scripps Clinic. Upon finishing his fellowship, Dr. Sigal joined the division of hematology/oncology at Scripps Clinic and now is the head of its gastrointestinal cancer section.

Dr. Sigal has a particular interest in pancreatic cancer, helping develop a multidisciplinary pancreatic and biliary cancer program at Scripps. He has also initiated a translational gastrointestinal cancer research program, drawing on the strengths of Scripps Clinic and The Scripps Cancer Research Institute, with a particular interest in predictive biomarkers and new therapeutics. He actively enrolls patients in investigator-initiated, pharmaceutical, and national cooperative studies.
