Darren McCoy, FNP-BC, CPE has practiced as a nurse since 1997. He initially worked as a hemodialysis nurse for three years. He completed a master’s degree in nursing at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in 2000, shortly before joining Pain Consultants of East Tennessee as a nurse practitioner. He is board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Additionally, he earned the Certified Pain Educator credential from the American Society of Pain Educators (ASPE) in 2012.

He serves as an adjunct faculty member and clinical preceptor for the University of Tennessee College of Nursing, and has served as a presenter at PainWeek as well as PainWeekend events in cities nationwide in conjunction with the ASPE. He has authored or coauthored articles in Practical Pain Management, PainView, and PainWeek Journal pertaining to risk assessment, opioid tapering, and urine drug test interpretation. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Tennessee Pain Society, and served as Treasurer from 2012-2015.
