Costas H. Kefalas, MD MMM FACP FACG FASGE AGAF has been in practice at Akron Digestive Disease Consultants, in Akron, Ohio, since 2003. He practices general gastroenterology and is the Medical Director of the Digestive Health Center. He is Professor of Internal Medicine at the Northeast Ohio Medical University and is on the Medical Staff at Summa Health in Akron, where he also serves as a Physician Director on the Board of Directors and as the Chair of the Committee on Governance.

Dr. Kefalas completed a combined BS/MD program in 1997, at the University of Akron, where he was a University Scholar in the Honors Program, and at Northeast Ohio Medical University. In 2000, he completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Summa Health. He completed a Gastroenterology Fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas from 2000-2003. In 2015, Dr. Kefalas earned a Master of Medical Management (MMM) from Heinz College of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kefalas has served on numerous national and state professional society boards and committees. He is currently a Trustee on the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Board of Trustees. He is a Past Chair of the ACG Board of Governors, and from 2008-2014, he was the ACG Governor for Northern Ohio. From 2011-2020 he served as an ACG Representative to the Digestive Disease National Coalition (DDNC). From 2014-2016, Dr. Kefalas was the DDNC President. Dr. Kefalas is also a Director on the GI Quality Improvement Consortium (GIQuIC) Board of Directors, and serves as the current GIQuIC President.

Dr. Kefalas is a member of both the Reimbursement Committee and MACRA Work Group of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Kefalas co-founded the Ohio Gastroenterology Society in 2009 and served as its Founding President from 2011-2013. In 2015, he was appointed a Trustee of the Ohio Medical Quality Foundation Board by Ohio Governor John Kasich and served until 2017.
