Dr. Claudia Trenkwalder started her clinical education in neurology and movement disorders at the University Hospital of the Ludwig-Maximilian-University in Munich in 1988 and was head of the “Movement Disorders and Sleep” research group at the Max- Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich from 1993-2000, before moving to the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology at the University of Goettingen. She is neurologist and Professor for Movement Disorders at University Medical Center in Goettingen, and Medical Director of Elena Klinik, the largest hospital for Parkinson and Movement Disorders in Germany since 2003.

Her main research interests are early symptoms and therapy in Parkinson's disease and movement disorders in sleep (RBD and RLS). She is currently Secretary of The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, but was also founding member of the World Association of Sleep Medicine (WASM), and President of WASM from 2011-13.
