Dr. Claude B. Sirlin, MD, is a board-certified radiologist who sees patients with a wide range of abdominal conditions affecting the gastrointestinal and genitourinary systems. He specializes in liver imaging, metabolic imaging, and imaging of abdominal cancers.

Dr. Sirlin founded and directs UC San Diego Health’s Liver Imaging Group, which actively collaborates with hepatologists, surgeons, pathologists, and statisticians to advance screening, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of individuals with liver disease. He is also the co-director of the Cancer Imaging Program at Moores Cancer Center, chair of the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System Committee for the American College of Radiology, and co-director of the Radiologist Clinician-Scientist Training Program.

As a professor in the Department of Radiology and clinician-scientist, Dr. Sirlin instructs medical students, residents, and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. Over the last 15 years, he has supervised more than 100 students in clinical imaging research. His research interests include MRI imaging of liver cancer and liver disease. He has published more than 190 peer-reviewed articles and is a reviewer for multiple radiology journals.

Dr. Sirlin completed fellowship training in abdominal imaging using MRIs, CT scans, and ultrasound at Stanford University School of Medicine. He was a resident in diagnostic radiology at UC San Diego School of Medicine and earned his medical degree from UC San Francisco School of Medicine. He is board-certified in diagnostic radiology.
