Claire Ashton-james PhD

Dr. Ashton-James is a Social Psychologist whose research investigates the social contributors and interpersonal consequences of chronic conditions and their treatment. The overarching aims of her research is to evaluate and improve treatment delivery and patient outcomes, including pain, quality of life, and social wellbeing. Dr. Ashton-James conducted her PhD research at UNSW (Australia) and Duke University (USA). She was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of British Columbia.

Before moving to The Netherlands to work as an Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen, and later, the Free University of Amsterdam (Department of Psychology and the VU Medical Center Amsterdam). Dr. Ashton-James conducts interdisciplinary research with collaborators in Dentistry, Maxillofacial Surgery, Clinical Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Physiotherapy, and Medicine, and is actively involved in providing continuing education to healthcare professionals.
