Dr. Charles P. Vanderpool is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist who returned to Indiana University School of Medicine in 2011 following completion of his residency and fellowship training at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He currently serves as the Co-Division Chief of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.  Dr. Vanderpool is also the Chair of the Nutrition Support Team and Medical Director of the Intestinal Rehabilitation Program at Riley Hospital for Children. Dr. Vanderpool is active in the clinical care of children with short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure. His main clinical interest is in pediatric nutrition, including both enteral and parenteral nutritional supplementation. He also has a specific interest in celiac disease in childhood. Dr. Vanderpool is participating in research regarding parenteral nutrition and lipid emulsions for the treatment of children with intestinal failure.  Dr. Vanderpool has also been active in research regarding malnutrition in children, including recognition of malnutrition and outcomes of malnourished children who are hospitalized.
