Charles (Chase) R. Sims, III, M.D., is a board-certified anesthesiologist with subspecialty certification in critical care medicine. He serves as the Chair of Quality, Vice Chair for Safety and Quality in Anesthesiology, and Vice Chair of the Surgical Quality Subcommittee for Mayo Clinic in Rochester. As an assistant professor, he specializes in anesthesia for thoracic surgery, orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, plastic surgery, and solid-organ transplant.

Dr. Sims graduated from medical school at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He finished a fellowship in Critical Care through the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.

Dr. Sims has clinical and translational outcomes research interests in enhanced recovery pathway development and implementation in surgery, goal-directed therapy algorithm use in complex surgery, including solid organ transplant, and quality outcomes in anesthesia and healthcare. Newer research focuses on how to recover teams after a crisis and build teamwork toward data-driven process improvement.
