Dr. Karam joins the OHSU Brain Institute from the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he was an assistant professor of clinical neurology and neuromuscular medicine. At OHSU, Dr. Karam will specialize in peripheral neuropathies and motor neuron disease (ALS).

He has expertise in performing and interpreting nerve conduction studies and electromyography; muscle, skin and nerve biopsies; autonomic system testing and quantitative sensory testing. Dr. Karam is involved in various research projects in peripheral neuropathy and ALS disease and is a reviewer for major neurology and neuromuscular journals.

Dr. Karam completed a fellowship in peripheral nerve pathology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and a fellowship in neuromuscular medicine and EMG at the Partners program, Harvard Medical School (Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston’s Children Hospital) in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his residency in neurology at Beth Israel Medical College, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, in New York, New York.
