Carsten Flohr studied at Cambridge and Oxford Universities and then trained in both paediatrics and dermatology. He was the first UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinician Scientist in Dermatology (2009-14) and was recently awarded an NIHR Career Development Fellowship. He joined St John’s Institute of Dermatology as Senior Lecturer in 2009 and was promoted to Reader in 2015. Dr Flohr is also a Consultant in Dermatology as well as Research & Development Lead at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK. Dr Flohr has a particular interest in population-based dermatology research with a focus on atopic eczema.

He founded the Epidemiology Interest Group of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) in 2010, was its Chair until 2013 and then its Secretary until 2015. He also chairs the British Association of Dermatologists Biologics Intervention Register (BADBIR) Data Monitoring Committee and is a Director of the International Eczema Council. Dr Flohr is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and the Clinical Trials Editor of the F1000 Atopic Dermatitis Section as well as Section Editor for the Critically Appraised Topics & Putting Papers into Practice Section of the British Journal of Dermatology. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed papers.
