Carrie Herzke, MD, SFHM, FAAP, FACP is the Associate Vice-Chair for Inpatient Operations for the Department of Medicine and the Clinical Director of the Adult Hospitalist Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also serves as the Firm Faculty leader for one of the medicine housestaff teams. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine with a secondary appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. She graduated from the University of Virginia, earned her M.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and her M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins.
She completed her Medicine and Pediatric residency training at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Herzke has served as the President of the Maryland Society of Hospital Medicine Chapter. Under her leadership the Chapter won both the Chapter of the Year Award and was recognized as a Platinum Chapter several years in a row. She is a member of the SHM Academic Committee of the Society as well as the Mentoring Subcommittee and she co-leads the Medicine and Pediatrics Special Interest Group. She was most recently recognized with the 2017 ACLGIM Leadership Award through SGIM. Her research interests include Faculty Development and Managing and Partnering with Difficult Patients. She has presented a number of workshops at SHM national meetings on topics including faculty development, negotiation, and using your Myers Briggs Personality type for career success. She also travels nationally speaking about how to Partner with Difficult Patients.
