Overview:
At the completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
Hospitalists are sometimes called upon to manage a patient’s airway in an emergent situation. This session will cover the topics of basic airway management, from recognizing distress to bag-valve mask use, and then progress through oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways to supraglottic devices, concluding with endotracheal intubation and initial ventilator management. Our faculty include intensivists, anesthesiologists, and hospitalists skilled at this intervention. A low faculty-to-learner ratio will provide the attendee with ample time for hands-on skill participation under direct supervision.

Objectives:
• Distinguish the different interventions to address respiratory distress;
• Determine which are most useful relevant to a particular situation; and
• Demonstrate the skills needed to employ each of the airway adjuncts discussed.

Number of attendees: 20 maximum
